The story of the Baby Dipper bowl
As
a stay-at-home mom of twin baby girls, Barbara Schantz faced an enormous task
just in feeding the girls. Frustrated
with the bowls she had already purchased, she investigated and bought other
bowls, but still remained disappointed. The
vision for the Baby Dipper TM bowl came to her when the girls
were about 6 months old, not long after the girls started eating baby cereal and
other pureed foods. Barbara needed
a bowl that required only one hand to successfully feed a baby, but why wasn't
there one on the market that satisfied this need?
To
accomplish one-handed feeding, the bowl should not slide around on the table and
should aid in the collection of the baby food. A non-slip bottom surface would keep it from sliding.
A sloped interior surface and a spoon-shaped collection point would help
gather the food down to the last bite. Also,
adding to those features, the vertical sides help push food onto the spoon
and transparent sides allow the food to be seen easily by both the parent
and the child. The bowl Barbara designed has proven to make feeding
much easier for parents and even for toddlers trying to spoon-feed themselves.
The Baby Dipper bowl is truly unique in the marketplace and will hopefully help
parents everywhere.
A bit about Barbara Schantz
Barbara
was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, living there until 2000 when she met
her husband, Hans, and moved to Huntsville, Alabama. She attended Georgia
Tech (Go Jackets!), majoring first in architecture and then in history.
She worked for Volvo Cars of North America for 8 years, the last 4 as a Product
Specialist training sales consultants about the features and benefits of Volvo
cars. She left Volvo in 2004 when her twin girls, Greta and Cora, were
born and has been a stay-at-home mom ever since. Barbara was diagnosed
with Multiple Sclerosis the same day the patent for the Baby Dipper bowl was
filed, August 17, 2005. So far she has not been affected very much by the
disease, but since there is no telling when there will be a sudden downturn, she
keeps going full steam all the time. Barbara never dreamed that she would
have twins, much less that she would come up with a product that could help
parents everywhere feed their babies and help toddlers learn to self-feed.
And all of this in spite of the fact that Hans is also a co-founder of another
start-up company, The Q-Track Corporation, which is working on a tracking system
to supplement GPS. Things have certainly not been easy the past few years,
but the Schantz family believes that each of these companies has a place in the
business world to help people with different needs.
